of Concern for Dorothy Scheibner,
Kelly DeWitt (Kim DeWitt's brother), Shelly Roy, John Kingsnorth (Nancy Klunzinger’s
brother) and Cody Weisenberger (Jack and Sallie Weisenberger’s grandson.)
By the wind of your Holy Spirit, O God, transform the embers of
hope waiting in our hearts into full-bodied flames of courage. Make us
disciples who make disciples, good news people, always learning, to make room
for those you put in the paths of purpose you lay out for us. Amen.
Prayer taken from the 2010
Mission Yearbook for Prayer and Study.

Many Cards of Thanks
The people of First Presbyterian Church received many cards of
thank from the congregation members of the St. Johns
Episcopal church which Carolynn Cosan
was a member of. They expressed their gratitude for First Presbyterian’s
hospitality in the funeral of Carolynn. To see the many cards please
check the bulletin board out by the office.
The Pastoral search process [prepared
by Tom Miles, Clerk of Session]
1.
Lake Huron Presbytery has authorized our Session to instruct the
Nominating Committee (Marilyn Bidwell, Kim DeWitt, Carole Kennett, Tom Miles,
Carolyn Monahan, Linda Rose, Carol Shannon) to prepare
a slate of nominees for a Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC).
2.
At its May 17, 2010 meeting our Session directed the Nominating
Committee to prepare a slate of seven, eight, or nine nominees for the
PNC. Nominations are being accepted. To nominate someone, fill out
a bulletin insert, let a member of the Nominating Committee know, or let the
church office know.
3.
When the Nominating Committee has a slate in place, the Session
will call a special congregational meeting to elect the PNC. The
Nominating Committee will present a slate. Additional nominations may be
made from the floor at that meeting.
4.
The PNC will prepare a mission study to help describe our pastoral
position on a Church Information Form (CIF).
5.
The CIF needs approval by the Session and the Presbytery’s
Committee on Ministry.
6.
Our pastoral position will be posted on sites provided by the
Presbyterian Church USA.
7.
The PNC will review applications for our position and select a few
top candidates.
8.
The PNC will observe top candidates preaching in their own pulpits
or in neutral pulpits.
9.
The PNC will select the person who will be nominated to be our new
pastor.
10. The nominee will preach at our church, after which
the congregation will meet to decide whether or not to extend a call to that
person.
Job description for a member of the PNC [excerpted from the Lake
Huron Presbytery Committee on Ministry manual with some editorial changes]
Qualifications: Persons
being nominated to serve on the PNC must be active members of
the
congregation and not members of the same nuclear family. Persons serving
on the PNC
should
have the ability to maintain confidentiality within the Committee and be able
to resist
pressures
to divulge information about the work of the Committee.
Top priority position: As
a member of the PNC you have been elected to a very
responsible
job. While you are serving on the PNC, this job should have your top
priority. If
necessary,
you may want to consider withdrawing temporarily from other offices, duties,
and
responsibilities
that you may hold in the church in order to give your full energy and
attention
to the work of the PNC.
Responsibilities:
1.
To work in cooperation with the Presbytery’s Committee on Ministry
(COM) through its assigned liaison person (Chuck Richter).
2.
Look at the prior mission study for our church and affirm it or
modify it.
3.
Write the Church Information Form (CIF). See step (5) above.
4.
To conduct the search for a new pastor. See steps (7), (8),
and (9) above.
Suggestion of a person to
serve on the PNC. I recommend
____________________________
as a possible member of the
PNC. Your name (optional) _______________________________
Rosebush Manor needs your help
Rosebush Manor is accepting donations of new cheerful cotton or
cotton/blend for our resident’s pillow making project. We are also in
need of the poly fill. If you would like to make a donation of either
please drop off items at Rosebush Manor. A gift card to Joanne’s or Walmart in a small amount would also go a long way.
If you have a 40% off coupon to Joanne’s that you will not be using donating
this would also be helpful. Thank You.
Annual Rummage Sale June 12! RUMMAGE
SALE; Volunteers are needed! There will be
a sign-up sheet before and after church services. Please give us a couple
of hours of your time. And don't forget to keep collecting all that good
"stuff" for our sale. Donations
for the rummage sale will begin June 1 thru 9.
